Andrea Martin Andrea Martin is an extraordinarily versatile performer who has long been acclaimed as a screen actor, stage actor, and Broadway musical star as well as comedian, screenwriter, cabaret performer, and voice actor. She was born in Portland, Maine on January 15, 1947 of Armenian heritage. Her grandfather, whose last name was Papazian, emigrated from Ottoman Turkey in the early 1900s, changing his name to Martin when he settled in Maine. A former member of Toronto Second City, Andrea Martin began her show business career doing comedy, and became famous for her role on SCTV, the sketch-comedy television program for which she also won two Emmy Awards for writing, as well as a Best Actress nomination. Her recent film credits include My Big Fat Greek Wedding, All Over the Guy, and Hedwig and the Angry Inch. On Broadway, her most recent appearance was as Golde in Fiddler on the Roof (2005). In 1992 she won the Tony Award as Best Actress in a musical for My Favorite Year, and she has since been nominated twice more in the same category for Candide and Oklahoma! Off Broadway she has played numerous leading roles as well, including the lead in Tennessee Williams’s play The Rose Tattoo (Huntington Theatre). She has also written and performed an acclaimed one-woman show, Nude, Nude, Totally Nude. Among her many credits as a voice-over actor are The Rugrats Movie and the TV shows “The Simpsons” and “Earthworm Jim.”
